Some kind of miracle
Kidnapping young girls has been a marriage custom in Ethiopia for years. More than 70% of marriages are a result of abduction.
A 12-year-old girl was abducted and beaten by several men in an attempt to force her into marriage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Luckily, a miracle happened. The young girl was rescued by lions. Yes, you read it right.
“Everyone thinks this is some kind of miracle, because normally the lions would attack people,” Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo said.
In Ethiopia, there are only about 1,000 lions due to hunters killing them for their fur and selling it for $1,000. Amazingly, the young girl was guarded by not one, not two, but THREE lions.
So, why did they help this little girl instead of turning on her? Here’s why…
Seven VS One
Seven men kidnapped and repeatedly beat the young girl before the lions chased them off.
“They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest. If the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage,” Sgt. Wondimu said
Missing for a week
She had been missing for a week before being found by police and relatives miles and miles away from her home. The lions guarded her for about half a day.
