“Do Not Pity the Dead, Harry”
Albus Dumbledore once said, “It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.”
At no time is this statement more true than while accepting and coping with the loss of a loved one, or even a stranger we admired; for example, an actor who has given so much to our lives.
Alan Rickman died on January 14th after battling cancer, and the world is still reeling with shock and sadness. Best remembered for his roles in Love Actually, Sweeney Todd, Die Hard, and various stage productions, Rickman was especially beloved in the Harry Potter community, having portrayed the specious role of Severus Snape for over ten years.
Following his passing, Rickman has gone on to join the list of departed Harry Potter cast and crew members, and while his death may be gaining more publicity than most, his fellow actors are no less remembered for their unforgettable mark on the wizardry and Muggle worlds alike. After all, magic leaves traces.
