While I think most of us are happy not to live under a monarchy, I still think many Americans love the Queen of England.
Queen Elizabeth II is adorable, very smartly dressed, and she runs business like no other. The fact that she’s done it for nearly 64 years makes it even more impressive. In fact, her leadership has made her a role model for many, including one American, who wrote to her with a very interesting plea.
“Take us back” begged one man in a letter he wrote to Buckingham Palace last month. Brought to light by his friend on Reddit, the writer remains anonymous, but the letter looks legitimate.
In a desperate attempt to save the future of America, the writer penned this letter following the Republican primary debate and mailed it straight to Buckingham Palace. It reads,
“Dear Your Majesty and Prime Minister,
On behalf of the American people, I urgently implore you to please take us back. Clearly, the options we have to lead us aren’t up to par. Again, please, I beg of you, make the United States of America a colony of the United Kingdom. For further reasons as to why this is such a necessary, albeit drastic, step, I refer to tonight’s Republican Party primary debate. Thank you. God save The Queen.”
Strange as it seems, the story gets weirder: Buckingham Palace responded.
What makes this story so uncanny is that Buckingham actually took the time to respond to the troll, dignifying the writer with a legitimate answer to his plea.
As you may have guessed, they said no. The curt but polite response reads, “I have been asked to write in response to your recent letter to The Queen in which you express your views about the American government. Whilst your views have been noted, you will appreciate, I am sure, that there can be no question of The Queen intervening in the affairs of another Sovereign state.” Unreal.
Many Redditors were quick to call BS on the letter, which then led the original author to add another photo of the envelopes from the exchange.
Looks pretty legit to me! It’s too funny that a Buckingham Palace correspondent actually had to take the time to write back to this angry American explaining that the Queen can’t just invade whichever country she pleases– especially not the US of A. What a classic and polite British response.
The only thing that could have been better than the Deputy Correspondence Coordinator writing back to the anonymous guy in question would have been if the Queen herself shot back at him and told him off.
