Ever Wonder How Octopuses are Born?

I recently learned the the correct plural of “octopus” is not “octopi,” but actually “octopuses.” You see, I’m always keen on learning about these magical creatures that I even have one tattooed on me. One of the most interesting things about animals is learning all the ways that they reproduce. In the case of octopuses spawning, the male uses a specialized arm to transfer sperm packets into the female’s mantle cavity. Kind of like handing off their sperm to the female. Imagine if humans did that? “Here ya go, lady! Kthanksbai!”

In Australia, Pang Quong descended underwater to watch a female octopus lay her eggs and help keep them safe over the following weeks. Once they were ready to develop, he recorded the magic of undersea birth.
