That's saying a mouthful
Sign language is a great way for those who are deaf and those who can hear to communicate better, but there is definitely an art to it. One small gesture can turn your wholesome conversation into something absolutely filthy or even terrifying. The person you just offended may never see you in the same way again. These people really had to do some damage control after mis-signing.
My favorite is when hearing people rub their hands together- like “evil plan” or “oooo food looks good” and you rub your palms together in anticipation. That sign means motive, and so it’s extra cute because they’re unknowingly extra motivated to eat or extra motivated to commit that crime. It’s just adorable. (AnimeBarbie)
My girlfriend works in Special Education and knows sign language. She just started working at a new school, and was a little rusty with her signs. She was assigned a kid who was deaf.
He entire first few days she was working with him he would refuse to get in line. Turns out the sign for pasta and line are very similar. She was unknowingly telling the kid to “Get in the pasta.” (NoTearsPlease)
I am deaf. A fair amount of pastors loosely sign “Satan” early on around prayer and before their sermon. It’s actually very strange because while it is something someone could accidentally sign when addressing a large crowd like a church, it happens quite often. (mattman2005)
