You should be as prepared as this kid was!
Star Wars may have the largest fan base of any film franchise that’s ever been made. Since Episode IV – A New Hope thrilled audiences in 1977, people of all ages have been entranced by the on-going fight over the fate of the universe.
These days, you can get action figures, every article of clothing imaginable, even Star Wars cookware. Or you can remake the movies to your liking. That’s what one mega-fan did, and she has been commended by the guy at the very top of the franchise.
LeeAnna Vamp is no ordinary fan. She’s an actress, model, cosplayer, and host of the “frightfully fun show for all ages” Best Fiends Forever. All of this means that’s she a professional, experienced, expert fan. You can see her dressing up as her favorite pop culture icons from comedies, horror movies, and sci-fi flicks on her social media all the time. One of the objects of her obsession is Star Wars, a franchise that is only set to grow even larger now that it’s owned by Disney.
Vamp, as she is lovingly called by the fan boys, took it upon herself to remake a scene for The Last Jedi. The eighth episode in the series, directed by Rian Johnson, featured the mineral planet Crait. This world is covered in shining salt which we learn from one of the Resistance fighters who tastes it. Another interesting feature of the salt is that it changes from white to red when disturbed
The “Queen of the Nerds & the Ghoul Of Your Dreams” loved that scene, and she decided to honor it by recruiting some of her young friends to lovingly remake it. Now, she’s got a whole new crop of fans.
In her remake called “Salt Licker,” two resistance fighters (played by young boys) wait in a trench for the First Order’s AT-AT walkers to near with their Nerf guns locked and loaded. One of the fighters, takes a pinch of the mineral matter into his mouth and realizes it’s salt. The other fighter says to him, “Really? You licked the battle field?” to which his comrade responds, “Good thing I came prepared.”
He puts down his gun and pulls out a canteen and margarita glass. The young man uses the battle field to salt the rim of the glass, then pours (virgin) margarita into the glass. He takes a refreshing sip, and the scene fades to black.
Vamp’s fans thought that the clip was cute, but she never thought that she would be commended by the director of The Last Jedi himself!
Director Rian Johnson responded to the new scene on Twitter, “O. M. God.” That’s not all, however. Mark Hamill who has played Luke Skywalker since the 1970s retweeted the video.
Other fans had a lot to say about the clip as well. User @VMStClair said, “I feel like salt-licker is going to become one of those iconic characters like Boba Fett or ‘guy running in ESB with an ice cream maker.’”
User @_jmcguire tried to reach out the Stars Wars creator with the tweet, “George Lucas: remember those two guys in the trench from the last Jedi? Well here’s a movie where they’re kids!”
