She was transported in an instant
Proposing to the love of your life can be so exciting but so scary. Even though you may have talked about getting married for a long time, popping the question can be the most exhilarating thing you ever experience.
Melbourne man Alex Lackovic knew that it was time for him to take his relationship with Kelly to the next level, so he wanted to give her the greatest gift he could think of when did it: her childhood memories.
“Kelly is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. She’s kind, she’s humble, she’s nurturing and loving. If there were more people like Kelly, the world will be a better place. I knew that I wanted to marry her as soon as I met her,” Alex raved about his lovely girlfriend Kelly.
He wanted to do a “virtual reality proposal” so that he could make sure his proposal was just as special as her. He continued, “I’m going to drop down on my virtual knee and hopefully she says yes.”
Virtual reality game makers Zero Latency wanted to help Alex on his big day. A company spokesman explained that they allow people to put on virtual reality gear and play first-person shooter games in a huge room.
“What our system does is we have this great, big free room for VR, untethered space that you can totally walk around in and experience it as if it was the real world. Little does Kelly know that when the game ends, she’s going to be teleported to her favorite place in the world.”
Alex explained her favorite place, saying, “I’ve been lucky enough to have Zero Latency make me an entire virtual world based on Kelly’s happy place. The tree outside of her grandparents’ place in South Africa. Every time she thinks of her happiest times, she thinks about the time she spent out there with her friends and family. It was a simpler, fun time that she had back when she was kid. That’s where I’m going to propose.”
So… One day, Kelly, Alex, and their friends arrived at Zero Latency to play a group game of Zombie Breakout. After some time shooting zombies in a post-apocalyptic world, the scene totally changed, with only Kelly and Alex’s avatars left standing in a serene suburban neighborhood.
The staff removed the gear from the couple’s friends, so they can stand off to the side to watch Kelly walk through her grandparent’s neighborhood.
Watch the Proposal
“I know that we had a joke that we virtually feel like we’re already engaged. So I thought why not make that the reality,” says Alex to Kelly.
She takes her helmet off to find everyone standing there cheering her on. After Alex asks her if she’ll be his bride, she immediately says yes. The happy couple was then given a champagne toast by the whole company.
“Zero Latency dreamed with me, and they just went for it,” Alex said afterwards.
