Brooke will be treated like a princess for her birthday
One of the best things about social media is that we can connect with people we would never have met otherwise. We can reach out to strangers from afar when they’re in dire need of a helping hand.
Proving that social media is the real MVP, after one little girl was bullied for her weight on her birthday, she will receive the royal treatment thanks to generous donations from strangers and a few helpful women.
Brooke’s Broken Heart
Ten-year-old Brooke James from South London invited her classmates to her birthday pool party. Out of the 20 children she invited, only two showed up.
The others callously said that they didn’t want to go because she was “too fat.”
Brooke suffers from a hormonal condition that causes her body to grow faster than it normally should. Brooke’s mom Chrissy Watson said about the heartbreaking situation:
“Brooke has precocious puberty which has caused her to grow and develop more than the other girls her age and that’s horrible for her, especially when everyone gets changed together for PE, because she gets a lot of teasing and body shaming. When only two people said they wanted to come to Brooke’s party I cried, I was so disappointed for her. It’s a swimming party and she told me they said she was fat and would look like a whale in her costume so they didn’t want to be there.”
Trying to help out, Chrissy asked her family to come out to the event. Her aunt Lesley Tanton posted a request for birthday cards from anyone to help bolster Brooke’s confidence. Luckily, the post was shared so much that thousands of people saw it. It caught the eye of the ladies from the Miss British Beauty Curve pageant who have taken a special interest in Brooke.
Beauty queen Emily Diapre explained their crusade for Brooke,
“It broke our hearts to hear that such a young girl has started to believe in the idea that being fat is an unlikable trait. She believes people won’t come to her party because she is fat so nobody likes her. No-one should ever feel like that, especially not a 10-year-old. We wanted to show her that fat is beautiful, it isn’t a dirty word and we should embrace ourselves. We’re planning to give this little queen her own sash, crown and title – as well as lots of other surprises – so she can feel as fierce as we do!“
The shapely beauty queens invited Brooke and Chrissy out to the inaugural Miss International Curve 2017 on October 21 to celebrate Brooke’s birthday in style. They set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Brooke’s travel expenses, saying, “In order for this day to be a magical experience for Brooke we need you to donate as generously as you can. This beautiful girl & her family will certainly go to the ball and receive the full royal treatment!”
Their goal was to raise 300 pounds, but the fund has received almost 1000 pounds!
Going to the Ball
Chrissy was more than grateful. “She was so upset about her party, unkind people made her feel very low, but what the Miss British Beauty Curve queens have done is completely overwhelming. Going to the pageant in Kent and staying in a hotel will be the first time we’ve been away together, just the two of us, so it’s going to be so special,” Chrissy said.
“The best thing will be seeing her smile and her knowing how beautiful she really is. Inside, she is so sweet and kind but people don’t judge her by that, they judge her by the way she looks and that’s horrible and so unfair.”
As Brooke and her mom prepare to go to the pageant, the kind beauty queens are ensuring that everything will be magical for them. Emily said, “A party is the most important thing in the world when you’re that age and everyone should feel like a princess on their birthday, it’s the one day that’s all about you.”
