It’s spring, and with the season comes Spring Cleaning. In with the new, and out with the… disgusting?
Though you may go home at the end of every day, you may not look at every inch of your residence all the time. So, until you look, there’s tons of things that could be living with you. While these Reddit users were minding their own business in their homes, they found some disturbingly nasty things. From the mold to the bugs to the unidentifiable, these Redditors shared the worst things they’ve come across in their houses.
Blaming the Dog
I was cleaning under my son’s bed one day, and pulled out a raccoon tail. Thought it was weird… maybe part of a toy or a hat or something, until I realized it was a freshly skinned raccoon tail. I had a dog at the time who was fond of chasing raccoons out of the back yard… guess she took a souvenir from one. (Icksnay)
A friend of ours told us about how a rat died inside the wall of her rental home. First they noticed the smell, and it took forever to figure out where it was coming from. Apparently there was no way to get the rat out without taking out the wall, so the landlord and the pest guy said they’d just have to wait it out.
Then the smell got better, so they thought they were in the clear. Until the flies came. Hundreds and hundreds of giant black flies from the maggots that had been feeding on the rat carcass infested the house for weeks until they had lived out their life cycle. It got so bad they thought about leaving, but they have two little kids and a dog and couldn’t afford a short term rental or a hotel.
And then as soon as the flies were gone . . . another rat died in their wall and the cycle started again. (h0b0gl0ves)
Speaking of Cheese…
My parents found some ~10 year old cheese in the very back of a kitchen cabinet when they bought a new oven. Where did the cheese come from, you ask? When I was young (maybe 3 or 4), they discovered that there were mice in the cabinet. My dad set some traps to kill them, but I wanted to feed the mouse, and I learned from Tom & Jerry that mice love cheese. So, I put some cheese in the cabinet for the mouse. I guess the mice died before they got to the cheese that I left for them. (JMS1991)
