Who knew a little coffee could do so much?
We’ve always heard about how random acts of kindness can turn a frown upside down, but do they have the power to make true change? If this Redditor’s story speaks to the answer, then it really does seem like the smallest things can do wonders for someone who really needs hope. User goldenboy2191 created a post to fill the Internet in on something that just happened to him and it will definitely give you hope!
“Yesterday a woman came through our stand upset, we hooked her up with a drink on us. Today we received this,” he wrote, and he attached a picture of a handwritten letter…
The letter reads:
To the Tuesday September 5th morning staff,
You are all too good for this world.
Imagine finding out that your boyfriend has a massively pregnant wife that you knew nothing about. Imagine getting zero hours of sleep because you know you have to work with him and see him stupid, cheating, lying, stupid freaking face – all day.
You’d probably just want some coffee to get you through that, right?
Now imagine going to your favorite coffee spot, ordering your favorite drink, having the team listen to your stupid problems, tell you that you’re sure as s**t too good for f**kboys like that, make sure that your drink is the best d**n white coffee kicker you’ve ever had, then tell you it’s free.
I ugly cried the whole way to work. That was literally the most you could have done for me and I am so grateful for your kindness.
I’m sorry I busted out in tears when you were nice to me. Please accept this seed paper as an apology and grow love with it.
To learn that you’re the other woman of your coworker has got to be one of the worst feelings ever. A little hot coffee and a sympathetic ear clearly went a long way, and it goes to show you how much kindness can do for someone in need of it.
The shop’s staff got a lot of attention from people who have been praising them. Redditor BenevolentRascal wrote to them, “Wow, that’s really special. I hope everything turns out alright for her. Whenever you perform an act of kindness, however small, you never know how much it might affect other people. Good on you and your coworkers.”
Bacon_Hero also shared their story of small kindnesses: “I’ll never forget the woman that waived my student ID fee going into my senior year. I was late to get one since I was attending my mom’s funeral. It was like a 20 dollar fee and meant basically nothing to me financially. But just the fact that someone, anyone made an effort to brighten my day during such a dark time meant the world to me. Like you said, sometimes the small gestures can have the biggest impacts.”
Redditor fatherofbabydragons had this very touching story:
Last year I was going through a really bad stint of depression and anxiety. I was crying every day, contemplating suicide and was stuck in the bottom of a pit of despair so deep I couldn’t see the way out.
A friend of mine suggested buying a beautiful scented body wash, so on my low days I had something nice to cheer me up. So I went into Lush, they make these incredible scented beauty products.
So I was chatting with the sales girl and she was helping me pick something out. I told her that I’d been ‘feeling low’ and wanted something to cheer me up. We spoke for about five minutes about the selection available and I choose something great and went to the counter. When I got there, the lady at the register pulled out a big pot of moisturizer from under the counter and added to my bag. The sales girl had told her to give it to me as a gift.
I stood outside that shop and ugly cried for ages- I was so overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of a total stranger. Now, whenever I feel low again, I remember what she did and make sure I pass it on, whether it’s volunteering at the local shelter, paying for a stranger’s coffee or simply telling an older lady how much I like her dress. If I can make one other person feel as grateful and happy as I did that day, I know I’m doing good.
