These teachers just never learn their lesson
There have been so many cases of teachers crossing the line with their students that it almost seems inevitable at this point. How do you stop this violation of authority and trust? With more and more stories coming along with increasing speed, we’re honestly becoming desensitized to the issue. This time, the teacher is a 25-year-old woman who had an illicit relationship with not one, not two, but three boys that she taught in school.
Erin McAuliffe was always a looker, and according to the photos obtained from her now-deleted social media pages, she wasn’t afraid to show it. But she decided not to pursue a career in a field that used her looks. Instead, she opted to be a math teacher.
Erin Is Experienced
Erin described herself in her Linkedin profile: “Experienced High School Mathematics Teacher with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. Skilled in Microsoft Word, Sales, Retail, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Customer Satisfaction.”
She graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 2010, and went on to obtain a master’s degree in mathematics at East Carolina University in 2016. Shortly after getting that degree, she got a job at Rocky Mount Prep, a public charter school in her hometown.
You know what they say about small towns: word really gets around quick when something happens. It seems like she was giving after-school lessons to three of her male students, but she wasn’t teaching them about equations. She taught them all about the birds and the bees… a decision which could (and should) land her in jail for years.
Calling the Cops
The school learned that Erin was involved with two 17-year-old students and one 16-year-old student. The administration removed her from the property on May 4. Erin was officially fired four days on May 8 and was promptly arrested after the cops interviewed obtained a warrant.
She was charged with four felonies including three counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of indecent liberties with a minor. Erin worked at the school for almost a year without anyone knowing what she was doing. Rocky Mountain Prep issued a statement that said in part, “We have been fully cooperative with local law enforcement during the course of their handling of this matter.”
“It’s very shocking and appalling that a person would do that with a student. The teacher/student relationship is very intimate in itself, but it’s not meant to be abused in that sort of way,” recently graduated student Dayvon Steel explained of the situation.
Erin was placed in the Carteret County Jail until she posted her $20,000 bond. She could face up to five years in jail, but she’ll probably just get a slap on the wrist. In the annals of female teacher/male student relationships, you’ll notice that the ladies tend to get off with little to no time served. What’s even more frightening is that when young men are the victims of sexual assault at the hands of women, some people play if off as being less serious than if it were the other way around. This outdated way of thinking is steeped in dangerous gender stereotypes that help perpetuate this very crime.
People that knew Erin when she was in the school have come forward with new pictures of her saying that she was a real party girl. Some noted that she looked like she was wearing an engagement ring in some of her latest pictures, but there’s no other indication that she was in a relationship with anyone at the time.
