Why are you laughing?
Have you ever been in a situation where someone says something funny and you laugh at it… but then it turns out it wasn’t a joke? After that, things get really awkward and everyone kind of looks at you like you’re crazy. It’s not pretty. These Reddit users had some pretty insane examples of that exact scenario, and some of them will make your jaw drop.
I was at a pirate themed costume party and a woman was dressed as the coin from the first Pirates of the Caribbean. The costume was pretty big, you could only see her head and legs, so I shouted across the room ‘hey it looks like you have no arms’ to which she replied that she didn’t. I laughed it off thinking she was joking…nope…she literally had no arms. I’ve never been more mortified in my life. (itsbloodyadam)
I was working on scheduled improvements to a factory production line which was going to take a couple days.
The production manager came over that evening and said “you are going to be finished before production starts up tomorrow morning, right?”
I responded “haha, no. This line will be down for a couple days minimum.”
The production manager responded with “haha. But seriously, make sure you finish everything up tonight so the line can run in the morning.”
I responded. “Haha. I wish.”
Then there was an awkward pause where we both realized we were both serious and the factory has some serious logistical issues. (MechanicalEnginEar)
