Throwbacks Are Coming.
From a high-fantasy book series first published in 1996, A Song of Ice and Fire has turned into the worldwide phenomenon of Game of Thrones.
Little did author George R. R. Martin know that when he started a story about direwolves in the snow and a man being beheaded back in 1991 that he was creating the plot, genealogies, and universe that would come to take the world by storm. Though his books topped bestsellers lists throughout the late ’90s and 2000s, it was the adaptation from book to TV screen that truly turned Game of Thrones into the cultural force that it is today.
Infamous for its seemingly endless cast of characters (with no fewer than 31 narrators and hundreds of other protagonists, antagonists, and secondary characters), A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones fans may feel intimidated at times, but after years of publishing and production, we’ve come to know and love (and hate) the many families, tribes, and vigilantes, watching them all grow and change over time.
The series often faces criticism for taking too long to write, or for having actors on the HBO show age much more quickly than their characters should. Do you remember how young some of them looked in Season 1?
Keep reading to see how much some of your favorite Game of Thrones characters and actors have changed over time! You’ll love these throwbacks.
