“I was never afraid of anything in the world except the dentist.” -Taylor Caldwell
Going to the dentist can be intimidating and scary for most children and, sometimes, adults. Looking at those instruments and hearing those drills in such a sterile environment is not pleasant. Some people are so nervous that they need to be sedated to just get a regular check up. To rectify it, the Pediatric Dentistry of Northbrook in Illinois had a brilliant idea — bring in a comfort dog. Named JoJo, she’s a specially trained dog to sooth people’s anxiety.

The power of pets
Sometimes nervous patients would receive nitrous oxide or some other sedative to relax. Once JoJo makes an appearance and sits in the chair or puts his head on their laps, they are instantly comforted. Patients are encouraged to pet the dog as they are getting work done. Apparently, JoJo is excellent at her job.
Man’s (and kid’s) best friend
“When the patients are very anxious or scared, they tend to move around a lot,” clinc staffer Veronica Renteria said to The Dodo. “When JoJo is there, the appointments go much smoother and quicker for them. And the doctor gets to perform the work as it’s meant to be done.”
