In the jungle you must wait, until the dice read 5 or 8…
Can you believe that Jumanji, the quintessential ’90s movie, is already 20 years old? In fact, it’s turning 21 one soon, though it may feel like only yesterday we first saw monsoons and stampedes rise out of a board game into suburban Rhode Island.
After two decades, it’s no surprise that Hollywood is already working on a new Jumanji movie, which was first announced in 2012. This new film has been described as a reimagined Jumanji “for the present,” and it will star Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas.
Whether you think it’s too soon or that a new movie is fine and dandy, don’t you just miss the original? With such a star-studded cast and unforgettable scenes (Peter turning into a monkey still scars me), do you ever stop and wonder where they all are now?
The cast of Jumanji, 16 years later…
Actress Kirsten Dunst was already doing big things before her time in Jumanji. She was just six years old when she made her film debut in Woody Allen’s Oedipus Wrecks short, and she was only twelve when she co-starred opposite Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire, a role which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.
After Jumanji, Dunst went on to star in countless movies and TV shows such as ER, Anastasia, The Virgin Suicides, Bring It On, the Spider-Man series, and Marie Antoinette. Most recently, she starred in the second season of Fargo.
Remember when Peter turned into a monkey? Yeah, I’m still freaked out by that, too. Prior to Jumanji, actor Bradley Pierce was the voice of Chip in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as well as one of the original voices for Tails in the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons.
Since Jumanji, Bradley has largely done voice acting in movies and video games, but he has also made guest appearances on Mad About You, Touched by an Angel, and Star Trek: Voyager. He was married in 2005 and has three children.
