Thanks for Choosing Airbnb!

Founded in 2008, Airbnb now has over 1.5 million listings in more than 190 countries across the globe. It has revolutionized the way people travel by offering literally millions of new, unique, and traditional options for places to stay, instead of just the standard fare of hostels, hotels, and resorts.

Bridging the gap between couch surfing, house-swapping, and the digital age, Airbnb allows people to rent out their home or apartment with the satisfying ease of minimal online interaction, making it a quick and direct process for those interested in renting as well.

Of course, along with any novel idea comes the criticism and problems. Naturally, while renting out your residence to complete strangers, there are bound to be more than a few horror stories, and where best to turn than Reddit?

When renting your house or apartment to strangers, it’s pretty fair game to expect that they’re likely to have sex in your residence (hide the good sheets). But Ari Teman never expected to come back to his Manhattan apartment to find a sex party for overweight revelers.

Teman left his keys with his Airbnb renter and went out to dinner before swinging home one last time to grab his luggage for vacation. That’s when he found out his apartment had been turned into an orgy with a “Big Beautiful Women” theme. He later found out that the event had gone viral online and could have gotten much larger had he not come back home.

The worst part is that Teman was evicted by his building and blacklisted from New York real estate, and that he’s been “homeless” ever since, having spent irregular amounts of time in 20 different residences since 2014.
