Warning! Some of these real life stories are extremely upsetting. This article contains disturbing images.

Wikipedia is one of the greatest resources on the internet. Being a wealth of knowledge, you can spend hours staying up reading articles on it about Charlie Chaplin that leads to the birth of film that leads to how digital cameras work that leads to how eyeballs works. If you go down the rabbit hole of learning, sometimes you run into some weird things, like my own obsession with reading about MK Ultra and mind control. So Redditors decided to share other creepy and odd things they have stumbled up on Wikipedia in case Stranger Things didn’t creep you out enough.

Always a Kennedy

The story of Rosemary Kennedy and her botched lobotomy:

“We went through the top of the head, I think she was awake. She had a mild tranquilizer. I made a surgical incision in the brain through the skull. It was near the front. It was on both sides. We just made a small incision, no more than an inch.” The instrument Dr. Watts used looked like a butter knife. He swung it up and down to cut brain tissue. “We put an instrument inside,” he said. As Dr. Watts cut, Dr. Freeman put questions to Rosemary. For example, he asked her to recite the Lord’s Prayer or sing “God Bless America” or count backwards….. “We made an estimate on how far to cut based on how she responded.” ….. When she began to become incoherent, they stopped.”

Following the operation she had the mental capacity of a two year old. The idea of singing “God Bless America” while your brain is being ground to mush due to your behavior being a risk to your father’s political career is just so disturbing and dystopian to me. (Muffinizer1)

Eat ALL THE THINGS

Tarrare

Basically a french soldier from the late 1700’s who was known for never getting full from eating. In fact, his hunger was so great that he resorted to eating all kinds of things like corks, stones, entire baskets of apples and apparently the dude was fine afterwards! Creepy thing is that doctors put him in a hospital to test him and he would sneak around, drink blood, and eat dead human flesh. He finally got kicked out when a toddler mysteriously went missing from the hospital and he was suspected of eating him. (OZL01)

“On another occasion Tarrare was presented with a live cat. He tore the cat’s abdomen open with his teeth and drank its blood, and proceeded to eat the entire cat aside from its bones, before vomiting up its fur and skin.”
