Time to do some digging.
It seems like only in movies do we see treasure hunts take place, with a ton of different things going wrong on the journey to finding it. Well, one New Mexico man has decided to bring the hunt to life, as he reportedly buried treasure somewhere in the country, and it contains $2 million worth of gold.
Art collector Forest Fenn is a millionaire, but decided to spend some of his money by bringing people together in a competitive way, hoping to change their lives and build human connections. He’s hoping that someone will come across the buried treasure in the near future.

The treasure was buried in the Rocky Mountains about 5 years ago.
Fenn reportedly put the $2 million treasure somewhere in the Rocky Mountains just 5 years ago, and he says that some hunters have come within 200 feet of it without finding it. During an interview with ABC, Fenn revealed that the cache contains “mostly American eagles and double eagles, hundreds of gold nuggets, some as large as chicken eggs, ancient Chinese carved jade figures, Pre-Columbian gold animal artifacts, lots of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds and other things.”
Forest Fenn has been sick with kidney cancer since 1988, and came up with the treasure concept shortly after being diagnosed.
After being diagnosed with kidney cancer almost 30 years ago, Fenn decided to share his wealth with others by creating the treasure hunt. He hopes that it will create real human connections amongst those who search for it, and use their skills to help one another in order to get to the riches.
