This Is Trippy
Lysergic acid diethylamide, better known as LSD or acid, is one of the best known drugs around, closely associated with its psychedelic and psychological effects that it has become so famous for.
Though not addictive, LSD can lead to psychological problems such as paranoia and delusions, especially if somebody has a bad trip or becomes injured while under the influence. And yet this unique and memorable high is the exact reason LSD is so popular.
Developed by Swiss scientist Albert Hofmann in 1938, LSD was later used in infamous CIA experiments when the drug was given to unsuspecting test subjects. Today, LSD is still best associated with the 1960s counterculture, as well as artists and musicians from that era. The drug causes such intense visual hallucinations and increased sensory effects that is has inspired ‘trippy’ art, music, and poetry.
While those who have taken LSD try their best to describe what the world looks like during a trip, most will agree that you have to actually experience it firsthand to truly feel it. While we don’t recommend doing any illegal drugs, we’ve tried our best to find pictures that make the trip feel just as real!
One of the most common things people experience while on LSD is sensory enhancement. Visual acuity is said to increase to the point of allowing people to perceive colors and patterns in extremely focused ways they haven’t seen before.
For example, these two drawings demonstrate increased enhancement over the course of a trip.
Color Enhancement (continued)
Artist Simon Haiduk specializes in drawings such as these, which demonstrate the increased perception from LSD trips.
This edited photograph shows the increased perception of color and patterns that give an organic or lifelike “breathing” sensation to otherwise sedentary or inanimate objects.
