Yes, you read that correctly
Yep, that’s right. At least chemically, the Swedish Chemical Agency determined that personal pleasure toys for adults are safer than regular children’s play toys. In order for the toys to be considered a safety concern, banned chemicals have to be found on the toy. There can’t be that many on something like a toy made for kids, right? According to The Guardian, a study by the SCA was done in 2016 and the results may have you wondering which type of toy you want to give to your kids.
The Swedish Chemical Agency Tested 44 sex toys and 112 children’s toys in a 2016 study to look for illegal substances. Sure, the ratio is a little off, but the results are probably not what you are expecting. Even one of the inspectors for the agency said that they were surprised by what they found, saying that this was the very first time that they had even done an inspection like this one.
How Are They Safer?
The SCA said that they believe sex toys were found to be safer chemically because they are made by independent companies who control almost everything when it comes to their product. Makes sense.
Children’s toys, however, are made by bigger companies that sometimes have less control over the individual items.
Keep That Out of Your Mouth!
Of the 44 sexy toys tested, just 2% came back containing chemicals that were banned because of safety concerns. On the other side, 15% of the 112 children’s toys had banned chemicals. You do the math! Even if adult toys should be cleaner because they, uh, go more places, we all know kids put toys in their mouths all the time. Clorox wipe, anyone?
