Wanna buy some cookies?
It seems like the Catholic Church does not support Girl Scouts. *GASP* What do you mean?! How can you not love chocolate cookies combined with coconut, peanut butter, or mint! They even have basic cookies for basic b*tches. What’s not to love about Girl Scouts? Well, a while back, conservatives were protesting hard when they discovered some things that the organization stands for. How did they protest? By not purchasing their cookies. I’m sorry, but this seems like a hard cause to get behind… Check out how this protest totally backfired.
Well-Being of Young Women
Missouri Roman Catholic Archbishop Robert J. wrote, “We must stop and ask ourselves – is Girl Scouts concerned with the total well-being of our young women? Does it do a good job forming the spiritual, emotional, and personal well-being of Catholic girls?” Girl Scouts are allegedly funding Planned Parenthood and other groups that ultimately clash with the Catholic Church and their conservative values. Carlson decided to take matters into his own hands.
Carlson said, “I am asking each pastor that allows Girl Scout troops to meet on parish property to conduct a meeting with troop leadership to review these concerns and discuss implementing alternative options for the formation of our girls.” In his hopeful attempt to cause people to boycott these adorable girls and their delicious cookies (which may or may not have crack in them), he failed intensely. In fact, stating his distaste for the Girl Scouts actually had the opposite result he was hoping for.
The Easter Missouri Girl Scouts raised a record amount at an annual fundraiser, just weeks after the Archbishop’s statements. They raised $350,000 from 500 people in attendance. Maybe he should have waited to speak his mind until after Girl Scout cookie season ended. All the man did was make people want more of their glorious cookies. The Eastern Missouri Girl Scouts even revealed that they had more out-of-state orders than usual!
