"Whoops" doesn't quite cover it
Everybody makes mistakes. You just have to hope that your mistake doesn’t go down in history.
Unfortunately, these folks weren’t so lucky.
Some mistakes are bigger than others. From tactical errors in war to ignoring fine details in science, some mistakes can lead to major disasters and massive loss of life. If you thought some mistakes you’ve made in your life were embarrassing, just wait until you get a load of these.
I Hate Snakes
The British government was concerned about the number of venomous cobra snakes in Delhi. The government therefore offered a bounty for every dead cobra. Initially this was a successful strategy as large numbers of snakes were killed for the reward. Eventually, however, enterprising people began to breed cobras for the income. When the government became aware of this, the reward program was scrapped, causing the cobra breeders to set the now-worthless snakes free. As a result, the wild cobra population further increased ending with a cobra population larger than what they started with. (DuckDimmadome)
This event actually triggered similar situations to become known as “the Cobra effect.”
