The threat is almost as bad as a divorce
The sad truth about marriage is that many of them – about 50% at this point — won’t last until death do you part. Whether amicable or filled with crushing pain, a divorce may very well come your way. Marriage takes work every single day. It’s a series of compromises, apologies, and appreciation that some people just can’t handle. These people anonymously discussed the things that their spouse told them they would end the marriage over on the confession app Whisper, and how those ultimatums made no sense to them.
A Huge Burden
“I never wanted my kids, and I only gave in because my wife threatened to divorce me if I didn’t give her any. I consider my kids the biggest mistake I ever made, but I couldn’t bear to lose my wife.”
Drink or Divorce
“My dad is six months sober, my mom has not done anything to cut back. When my dad said he wanted to get help, mom threatened divorce. Now she comes home drunk all the time and yells profanities at us.”
“Once my husband made me call my mom and ask her how to be a better wife, and I had to say everything was my fault. He threatened to divorce me and take my baby away if I didn’t. It was humiliating.”
