McDonald’s was created all the way back in 1940, and there have been tons of food items that have come and gone from the menu over those years. From other restaurant’s specialties to downright weird foods, McDonald’s has tried it all. The only way to present a perfect menu is trial and error, right? That’s what McDonald’s is thinking.
Even if you’re a huge fan of the fast food place, you probably don’t remember these weird creations from the past seven decades!
McDonald’s Hot Dog
A McDog? Hot dogs were introduced to the McDonald’s line back in the day, but they never really caught on. Burger King recently tried to do the same thing, and it didn’t really work for them either. For it being such an American food, the hot dog doesn’t really do well when it comes to fast food restaurants.
The Hula Burger was really started as an alternative for Catholics who couldn’t eat meat on Fridays during the Lenten season, but it didn’t really work… This image is a burger from Island (a different restaurant), but the McDonald’s version actually replaced the patty with the pineapple slice. That’s right, it was just pineapple on cheese… yikes!
Back in the early 2000s, McDonald’s cranked out a strange salad shaker for salad lovers to enjoy on the go. They came in the same container you would expect a McFlurry to come in, and you would pour the dressing on top then shake away to evenly coat the salad. The creation was discontinued in 2003 when they made room for the premium salad line.
