Think before you snap
One newlywed couple is being put through the ringer right now after their cheeky wedding picture went viral and caused a firestorm of backlash.
U.K. natives Matthew and Carly Lund from Birmingham thought that it would be a great idea to have some fun with their wedding photos. The September 25 ceremony took place on the luxurious, picturesque island of Rhodes in Greece at the quaint St. Paul’s Chapel.

After they said “I do,” they headed out to the rocky shore to take some pictures, one of which is rather striking. Carly can be seen in the photo kneeling in her white dress with her face buried in Matthew’s crotch while his pants and underwear are pulled down to the ground.
It appeared that Carly was performing fellatio on her brand-new husband.
“It was something we said we’d do for a joke. We expected a lot of laughs and jokes from people but didn’t expect it to be as popular as it was. People back in England were commenting on it, the whole thing went mad,” Carly said about the picture. ‘Mad’ may not even do this situation justice. Matthew’s own grandfather said, “I’m disgusted.”
To put things into perspective. St. Paul’s Chapel is so sacred and cherished that even though it can only hold less than 100 people, the cost to be wed there is between 10,000 and 40,000 Euros.
The regional bishop Kyrillos of Rhodes saw it and has since banned all foreigners from getting married in the chapel… even though there are hundreds of couples who already planned to get wed there. Giorgos Eleftheriou, president of the city of Lindos on Rhodes, admonished the couple, saying,
“We are Greek and we cherish our traditions and the sanctity of our religious sites. We cannot allow this disgusting behavior to prevail. I have hundreds of soon-to-be brides from Britain and all over the world calling me today in tears because of this decision. Shame on those two for the damage they have done. Would they have done the same in their homeland; in front of a British chapel, a Jewish temple, a Muslim mosque?”
Outraged

An unnamed local resident discussed how the community was disturbed by the wedding photo,
“Once the original story appeared in your paper it soon hit the Greek newspapers and TV. The local community are absolutely outraged. Even though it was a simulated act they felt it defiled the church. The situation was really that the local priest and church and the mayor had no choice but to say that there will be no further weddings – 99 per cent of the weddings are British.”
He added that the residents of the island are waiting for the Lunns to apologize.

Wayne Hodgkins, a friend of Matthew and Carly, isn’t concerned about the hundreds of saddened couples who can’t get married in Rhodes now. He thinks that Carly and Matthew should have the title of being the first couple to take a fellatio wedding picture. He said, “I think they should be recognized for coming up with the idea. Their version is so much better, you can see he’s actually pulled his trousers all the way down.”
Unfortunately, not many share Wayne’s point of view. In fact, some of the engaged couples whose weddings were canceled and even some local businesses have considered suing the Lunns for their egregious behavior.
Just days after this photograph was taken, a Dutch couple took a similar shot just after their own ceremony. However, the groom in this shot still had his underwear on. The photograph wasn’t taken near a holy site, so it didn’t catch nearly as much flak.
Do you think that the Lunns had every right to take the picture, or should they apologize to all the couples missing out on their dream wedding? Let us know what you think in the comments and SHARE this story!
