One girl's harrowing near-death experience
Riding a rollercoaster is for action lovers and thrill seekers. When it boils down to it, you have to be able to enjoy having a sense of fear to enjoy them. But no one ever expects that something will actually go wrong.
Just to play it safe, many of us stick to the slower rides and attractions, but sometimes, they can be the most dangerous of all.
This teenage girl had that script flipped on her at a Six Flags in New York, and a peaceful ride quickly escalated into a life threatening situation.
The First Signs of Danger
A crowd quickly began to form as a teenage girl dangled from an amusement park ride 25 feet above the ground in upstate New York. As people gathered to see what was the matter, it became clear that there was something terribly wrong.
The girl hung from a relatively slow moving amusement park ride, clearly in danger of falling, and the crowd immediately began to react.
Caught on Film
A witness of the incident was waiting to photograph his own family members when the girl began to dangle, according to The Washington Post. He said, “I was sitting there waiting and I heard the people screaming.”
He took his phone out and began recording the incident, resulting in this gripping footage.
He can be heard on the footage saying, “She’s gonna fall!” But the crowd pulled together to prevent the worst from happening.
Instead of panicking, the crowd pulled together and acted fast.
They gathered below the girl in case she fell. One person climbed into the tree to try to break or move branches out of the way.
The man filming can be heard shouting, “They’ll catch you! They’ll catch you honey, go ahead!”
Sometimes the scariest part can be letting go. That’s when the girl fell from the ride and was caught by the people below.
