With society becoming more and more progressive, certain traditions and formalities are coming under scrutiny. This includes high schools’ dress codes, which often perpetuates some pretty nasty double standards.
From showing shoulders to skirt lengths, girls have been scolded, punished and even suspended for their clothing. Some of them are fighting back in some of the best ways, like this girl who found the perfect way to get back at her school.
Tight Dress Codes
High school dress codes have been getting a great deal of scrutiny lately. High schools across the country are being accused of putting old sexist traditions before girls’ comfort, not allowing them to wear clothes that show too much skin; this even sometimes means wearing inappropriately warm clothes when it’s hot outside. However, now, girls are figuring out more and more ways to get back at their schools.
High school senior Tori DiPaolo and her friends realized that there was something strange about the bare-shoulder dresses that the girls were required to wear in their yearbook pictures.
She told Yahoo, “Over the past four years, myself and many of my friends have received dress code violations for clothes that were nowhere near inappropriate. I became a bit infamous around school for fighting the administration about dress code, so I figured I’d use my senior quote as one final jab. I just found it funny that the outfits for senior portraits technically violated the dress code by exposing our shoulders, so I saw my opportunity and ran with it.”
A Final Jab
DiPaolo only needed one sentence to get her final word in against her high school’s dress code. She didn’t waste the opportunity to point out her school’s hypocrisy.
As an outgoing senior, she made sure that this yearbook quote would get her the last word in the feud. Her senior quote read: “I’m sorry, did my shoulders distract you from reading this quote?”
