How he could have missed that one?
Racism exists in every corner of this Earth; it’s just a sad fact of life. No matter how much love people spread or acceptance they give, some people will never change their mean, unwarranted views. A group of people in Norway, who are espousing the values of their country, which they don’t want compromised by anyone else, have proven just how racist they are… even though they had absolutely no reason to spew hate at this single picture.
The Norwegian Facebook group Fedrelandet viktigst—which translates to ‘Fatherland First’—posted a photograph for their 13,000 followers to see, and they agreed that it was absolutely outrageous. The group is for “anyone who loves Norway, and appreciate what our ancestors have been fighting for,” and they’re serious about keeping Norway free of migrants and their culture.
When the members saw the picture, they stated things like, “This looks really scary,” and “Ghastly. This should never happen.”
The right-wing group was particularly offended by the photo because it appeared to show women in full burqas, and they are very much against Islamic people in their country. One commenter said, “Get them out of our country – frightening times we are living in,” and another wrote, “Should be banned. You can’t tell who’s underneath. Could be terrorists.”
Due to the high numbers of migrants coming from the Middle East and Africa to Europe, tensions are rising across the continent. People are fearing that European culture will be phased out to accommodate Sharia Law and that more and more lives will be lost to terrorist attacks. Some countries have banned full-face veils in an attempt to force people to conform to traditional European values.
Paranoid concerns aside, one look at the viral image shows that these people literally had nothing to be afraid of. See for yourself.
Hold the Bus
Look at the women in the photo. Are you afraid of them? Do you even see them?
If not, don’t worry: this picture is about as unthreatening as they come.
The photograph clearly shows a row of bus seats. It was posted by Johan Slåttavik originally, and he now describes himself as “Norway’s worst web troll and proud of it.”
Johan posted the photo to the group and asked, “What do people think of this?” And that’s when the hate started flowing. Johan later said, “[I wanted to] highlight the difference between legitimate criticism of immigration and blind racism. [I was] interested to see how people’s perceptions of an image are influenced by how others around them react. I ended up having a good laugh.”
