Talk about self-love!
With a trend of increased self-love and self-empowerment sweeping the nation, it’s no surprise that women are redefining what it means to love yourself. This new wedding trend is taking a whole new look at a wedding. It was ages before people accepted two people of the same gender getting married… But what about just one person?
This new trend is pushing for a marriage not to someone else… But to yourself.
Say, “I Do!”
Sologamy is a pretty uncomplicated concept. Instead of a marriage between two people, it comes down to one person alone. So how does it work?
These sologamists, who are mostly women, decide that it is so important to love and cherish themselves. In order to put themselves first above anyone else, they make a commitment to being faithful to their one and only — themselves.
One of the more important aspects of sologamy is the part that’s every little girl’s dream: the wedding.
These women have the full experience of a wedding: the gowns, the bouquets, the drinking and dancing — everything, that is, except for the groom. Essentially, they invite all of their friends to come around and bear witness to and celebrate the fact that they plan to dedicate the rest of their lives to no one other than themselves. They even perform traditional wedding vows, but they recite them all to themselves.
Unfortunately, when it comes to sologamist weddings, the legal implications are pretty much nonexistant. People who marry themselves remain legally single, and, obviously, they don’t even change their name. So, in short, this event is pretty much meaningless to everyone except for the bride herself.
