Water cooler kisses
According to Washington Post most straight people meet their romantic partners through friends. But many meet through work. It used to be #2 until the internet came along and with it, a flurry of dating sites where you have a bigger of pool to choose from. And let’s not forget that more and more people are working from home or remotely because of technology.
While it’s understandable you’d get an office crush since you around the person for hours almost everyday, sometimes, like any relationship, it ends badly. REALLY badly. And what do you do when you still have to see that person all the time. Redditors share their personal experiences for your entertainment.
Learn Your Lesson
Large office type setting with me in IT support.
One gal I broke up with, she went full-on psycho. Started camping in my office, wouldn’t leave. Followed me around. After a week of this I threatened to talk to her supervisor. She proceeded to walk down to HR and told them I was harassing her. I almost got fired over that one.
Another one, didn’t work out, but she told me she never wanted to lay eyes on me. I had to avoid her wing of the building at all costs. If I needed to deal with something in her area, I had to beg a co-worker to do it for me.
Having still not learned my lesson, a particular user was always complaining about something. She’d write nasty emails to top brass complaining about her computer, software, printer, how she needed her monitor raised, etc, etc…. Everyone knew we hated each other. I finally figured I couldn’t function like this, so I went up to her and was like “We can’t keep fighting like this, how about we talk over our differences over a beer after work?” After I said this, I was like “Dafuq I said?” but she said yes. That was 18 years ago and we’ve been married for 16 years now.
TL;DR Yes, third time lucky. Or, “Got a problem user? F*** her.” (poncewattle)
Leaving a Dust Cloud
Associate slept with 21-year-old intern who already has FIANCE. Fiance came to her work, had fist-fight with associate then went off jail. Associate was fired promptly on the spot by a partner (he was about to be asked to find a job that fits him better anyway). Intern acted as if nothing happened, went home at 5PM. We admired her of having balls of steel. However, she came back at 11’o clock at night, packed her stuff up, left her laptop and her resignation letter in front of partner’s office. She was never to be found from the city again so we assume that she had left the town. Nobody won in that romance story. (popcnt1988)
Eyes on the Prize
Not me. Two managers in compliance started hooking up. The woman had 3 or 4 kids. They hooked up for a long time, like over a year. Eventually the womans husband found out about it and threatened to come to our office and shoot the guy dead. She took a new job soon after this. The guy is still viewed as being on partner track but all the partners know about his affair and it will probably stop it from happening. (I3lackcell)
