"Life in plastic, it's fantastic!"
It’s 2017 and the world has officially gotten too wild for me. Know why? Because Ken dumped Barbie for dying her hair. Literally this has happened. In real, actual life. Strap in because this is a story I’m just as surprised to be writing as you are to be reading.
Thanks to the wonders of modern medicine and plastic surgery, we can now completely transform our looks. This is both really good (transpeople can get surgery to fit their gender identity if they so please), neutral (hey, if it makes you feel better to have bigger boobs, more power to you), and then… Sometimes crazy.
Look, no offense to these people, but sometimes it gets out of hand. I would argue that this story is an example of that.
Quentin Dehar is a 24-year-old French man who has spent about $100,000 to transform himself into a living, breathing Ken doll. Dehar, who now works as a TV personality, has gotten so much work done in pursuit of his Ken-like appearance that doctors believe that he has actually impeded his own ability to breathe, but it was all worth it to him so he could live as Ken…
Which, of course, means dating Barbie.
The Happy Couple
So, he did. Date Barbie, I mean. Well, for a while, at least.
Quentin underwent his long transformation into human doll with his girlfriend, Anastasia Reskoss (who spent an estimated $130k herself), by his side. After meeting in 2013 and falling in “love at first sight,” their joint mission began. They wanted to become the real-life Barbie and Ken.
