This prison program is shear genius
Staving Off Recidivism
It’s estimated that most of the people who go to prison will return within one year of being released. It becomes a vicious cycle of being unable to work and returning to drug use or crime which leads right back to prison. A person may finally be able to break that cycle by getting a job and creating a life free of crime.
The inmates who do get into the program are heavily screened and must always be respectful while in the classroom. Carmen continued, “I’m not here to punish them. I’m here to show them a skill that I have, and it happens to be in a prison.”
A Cut Above
These prisoners are very happy about keeping their minds busy while also learning job skills that could help them from ever coming back to jail. There’s even a waiting list to get one of these coveted slots.
