By this point, we’ve all read Kitchen Confidential and feel like we know how to get around while eating out. “We’re smart marks,” we tell ourselves every time we sit down at a new restaurant. “We aren’t about to get duped by some kitchen chicanery.”
But we’re wrong. We’re so wrong.
Reddit users from the industry side of things gathered to share what they’ve learned about ordering food from restaurants. Beware though, these aren’t for the faint of heart. We’re not sure we’re ever eating out again!

Swordfish are Monsters
Sword fish. I’ve seen a chef cutting up and cleaning one before and it’s not pretty. Let’s jut say a fish that size picks up a good deal of parasites during its lifetime, and they all start jumping ship at once when they figure out their host is dead… (LargestMoist2499)
Salad’s Not as Healthy as You Think
Not a chef or a waiter, but once spoke to someone who works in a health and safety food lab- the place where they take food samples and test them for bacteria etc. She said that she avoids salads when eating out. She said that anything that has been cooked is most likely ok, but to maintain a bacteria-free salad station is very hard.(SystemCanNotFail)
