This store has a lot of explaining to do
Jessica Hunchko was thrilled to learn that she was pregnant with her fourth child. She was in the middle of preparing for her little bundle of joy when she found out that the little boy would not be taken to term. In her grief, she wanted to rid her home of the reminders of the little one that would never be born by taking it all back from whence it came. However, the store just didn’t believe her and refused to take anything back for a fair price.
Jessica Hunchko was already a mom to three lovely little girls, but when she found out that she was finally pregnant with a boy, she was overjoyed. She immediately went shopping for new baby supplies at her local Babies ‘R’ Us in Connecticut. She said, “We pretty much had everything, but with car seats and strollers, you have to update them every five years.”
She didn’t think she’d be returning anything, so she threw away the receipt.
At some point, things went wrong, and Jessica lost her baby boy. She was devastated by the loss, and she felt like she needed to get rid of the things that she had bought for him because looking at the items was too painful.
When Jessica took her unused items back to Babies ‘R’ Us (without her receipt), she was pressured to tell them why she wanted to give them back. She recalled, “I guess I didn’t give her a good enough answer, so she asked, ‘Why are you returning this?’ And it triggered something inside of me, that a tear just rolled down my face and I had to just say, ‘My son passed away and I can’t use them.'”
Despite having paid for the items with her credit card and the store’s loyalty card, they couldn’t find the items in their sales logs, and she was asked to convince them to take the items back.
