This video is incredibly shocking.
It’s easy to think that, with as progressive as our society has become, racist outbursts like this one have ceased to exist. However, with society becoming more progressive, it also becomes more technological… Which means racist outbursts can get caught on camera and shared with the world.
If you had any doubt at all that pure, unadulturated racism still exists in this world, check out this shocking video of a woman who would rather let her son’s medical problems go unattended than to let him be checked by a black physician.
And it will make your skin crawl.
“There isn’t one white doctor?”
As is often the case with videos caught of real life events, this video doesn’t capture the very beginning of this interaction. The thing is, no matter what the context was, there is no way to interpret this woman’s opening lines as anything but overtly racist.
She sits in a waiting room, speaking to someone who appears to be a nurse or attendant, and asks, “You’re saying in this whole entire building, there is not one white doctor?”
No subtlety, no delicacy, just straight-up racism. And it gets worse.
One of the main ways that racism becomes more incorproated into our society is by parents passing it down onto their children. In this case, this woman seems perfectly happy to teach her son that the only people worth being physicians are white. What’s more, she has some horrifying stereotypes to sling around about people of color.
It’s clear that her child is in some kind of trouble, as she says he has “chest pains,” but she insists upon having a white doctor. “Can I see a doctor, please, that’s white? That doesn’t have brown teeth and speaks English,” she asked.
Luckily, the witnesses in the room aren’t willing to just sit around and let the woman be as racist. One of them boldly asks, “So, if the doctor is black, he’s not a doctor?”
The racist woman replies with the oh-so-intelligent comeback, “Okay, listen, b****, don’t get started with me.” She later says, “Being white in this country, I should just shoot myself.”
The meaning of her statement is a little fuzzy. It seems, though, that she’s implying that it’s hard for her, as a white women, than it is for blacks in America.
