Faith in humanity restored!
In today’s world, it can be hard to believe that there’s still hope despite the hardships and political tension. Every now and then, though, small communities such as this one come together to prove that, at the end of the day, most people still want the best for one another.
When this woman’s son who has a disability which restricts his speech and motor skills, was turning 21, she wanted to go above and beyond for his birthday party. Although she may not have expected such a huge reaction, an entire community came together to make his dreams come true. When it comes to restoring faith in humanity, this story will really do the trick.
One Woman’s Request
Kim Davis-Robinette’s son has disabilities that prevent him from walking or talking. When his 21st birthday was coming about, she decided to give him everything he wanted ― and what he wanted was a parade!
She began organizing, but she had no idea how big of a reaction she would get to her efforts. She likely have only expected a few people to come for the parade, but went for it anyway. She made a Facebook post asking friends and family to honk as they passed her house for his birthday.
“Matthew turns 21 this week and I want to do something special for him this year. One of Matthew’s favorite things to do is to watch parades. So I want to give him a birthday parade. I am requesting as many friends as possible to drive by my house and honk your horn to wish Matthew a Happy 21st birthday,” she wrote.
Everything changed when the story was picked up by a local news source! The story managed to grab the attention of members of the community. The outlet posted on Facebook, writing, “An Anderson woman’s son with disabilities is turning 21 and she’s planning to throw a parade to celebrate on Saturday! She says parades are one of his favorite things, because they’re one of the few events he can be as loud as [he] wants.”
Instead of one or two friends and family coming by, she received an “overwhelming” response from the community. People from Washington to Texas showed up on his birthday to create an incredible parade. The event, which lasted over an hour and a half, included police officers, firefighters, bikers, and even a marching band.
“It’s been overwhelming, the response,” Kim told Fox 59 news. “Since he can’t go out, we thought we’d just bring the party to him… It was just about people showing their love. When the people see the smile on his face, they’re going to get that love right back.”
