How hard is it to pump gas?
With the exception of New Jersey, Oregon was the only other state in America that still required gas station attendants to pump petrol. As of January 1, 2018, Oregon passed House Bill 2482, which allows rural gas stations to adopt self-service pumps. To most Americans who already pump their own gas/have been doing so their entire lives, this doesn’t seem like a big deal.
For some Oregonians, this change is making them blow a gasket.
Fortunately for us, the Internet caught wind that people were freaking out over this new bill, and let’s just say their grievances are pretty hilarious. On top of that, Internet trolls are only adding fuel to the fire, sending people spiraling deeper into a state of hysteria.
Keep in mind, this bill isn’t a mandatory call to make all pumps self-service. It simply allows it as an option in rural towns of less than 40,000 people.
Still, some of these people’s reactions to the news are absolutely priceless…
“Not A Good Idea”
CBS affiliate station KTVL of Medford, OR asked what people thought about the new bill on their Facebook page. It was fantastic…
Here’s Tina Good’s take on it:
Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too. Many people are not capable of knowing how to pump gas and the hazards of not doing it correctly. Besides I don’t want to go to work smelling of gas when I get it on my hands or clothes. I agree Very bad idea.
She (sort of) has a good point. It does eliminate a job opportunity, but I personally have never left a gas station covered in gasoline after a fill-up.
Sherek gets a little harsh with Tina here, but at least he has a pretty good point.
This out-of-state samaritan even went as far as offering his services to help struggling Oregonians acclimate to their new way of life. Of course, he also added a few extra courses that were on par with the difficulty of pumping gas…
