"How far along are you?" "Oh, about 260 weeks!"
An American Problem (Mostly)
The video also makes a point to explain the uniqueness of America’s lack of paid maternity leave. Despite being one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and priding ourselves on our defense of human rights, The U.S. is the only “developed” country that doesn’t require employers to provide some type of paid parental leave. Don’t believe me? Look at this list! There is only one other country with a “0” in the paid leave column.

Despite the United States’ relatively high standard of living, this is one of our lifestyle policies that flies in the face of what the country was supposed to stand for. Its pretty obvious that “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” no longer applies to most Americans… Or anyone who wants to have a family. It should be something more like, “abandon your newborn to work yourself to death or lose your job (because you got pregnant and a bunch of people who believe in religion that you don’t necessarily adhere to say that they should have more control over your body than you do).”
Then again, that’s a lot less catchy.
