It's not always what it seems!
“Bliss”

Bliss is the word. I am in an arranged marriage. Met my wife to be in a temple where our parents planned for us to meet. It’s been twenty years now. She is my oxygen. 100 years in this World is not enough. Having said this let me also tell you that the risk in an arranged marriage and the one where you date and fall in love are the same. You just got to be lucky. Will forgo rest of my sleep in this lifetime so that I get to spend more time with my wife holding her hand (arranged marriage). (goodvibes921bb)
Misconceptions

I am from the middle east and this is what I can tell you about arranged marriages here.
Women typically start looking to get married the early 20s often during or after college. Men get married later, usually after college when they’re working. This is mainly because culturally it is the husband’s responsibility to support his wife and nobody wants their daughter to marry someone who isn’t financially able to support a family. Women can still work and help out financially but it’s optional.
An individual will decide He/she is ready to get married and voice this to His/Her family. The Family will respond by looking by introducing the individual with possible suitors (who are also looking to get married) until eventually, the individual finds a match. At this point, they will continue to see each other several times before deciding to get engage[d] (engagement lasts anywhere between 3 months to over a year). During the engagement, the couple will spend time getting to know each other.
It’s worth mentioning that while the opinions of family members often play a vital role in deciding to move forward with a marriage but it is ultimately the decision of the individuals getting married and an engagement can be called off at any time by either party. Contrary to popular belief forcing people to get married IS NOT common practice in the middle east. It’s not unheard of but it’s definitely not common and is seriously frowned upon.
Once you’re married it’s just like any other marriage. You’ll meet couples who’ve had arranged marriages be happily married for decades and you’ll meet some who are having problems and others will get divorced. All things you’d find in typical marriages. (nothin_better_to_do)
Happily Married

I married by husband at 17. He was 25. It wasn’t a forced marriage, either of us could say no.
It’s been 14 years and it’s been happy. (YayCookiesForever)
