Quiet at the table!
Nothing sparks attention like a little bit of controversy. It’s a saying that doesn’t just pertain to journalism, but apparently the restaurant business as well. An Italian restaurant located in North Carolina found this out when they tweaked one little rule, and all of a sudden they became a hot topic in town.
Why would a restaurant be against kids? Any adult dining out knows that once in awhile, you get that table of a family that has no regard for other people. You want nice night out with good food with your S.O. and you can’t even hear yourself talk. “Why didn’t they hire a babysitter?” While kids have the right to enjoy a nice meal like anyone else, are they entitled to eat at EVERY restaurant?
If a boost in criticism boosted your business, would you be happy? That’s the dilemma that this restaurant has, as they’ve found themselves in an awkward situation. Caruso’s in Mooresville, North Carolina decided that they had enough of the disruptive children coming in and decided to put their foot down.
The Last Straw
Apparently, the last straw came when there was a young girl playing on an iPad while eating, and the parents refused to turn down the volume when they were asked to. Seems like one rude group of people ended up ruining the family fun for everyone.
The family ignored the repeated requests to keep quiet, and stop making so much noise. Eventually they were asked to leave the restaurant, and as a result they decided to ban all children under the age of 5 years old.
“They were upset, but they didn’t seem to care about what the other guests thought, we tried to be nice about the situation, but we’re here to take care of customers and we can’t tell a parent how to control their kids,” manager Yoshi Nunez said.
