Killers and Kids
Kerri Rawson — Daughter of the BTK Killer
Scout Master. Church leader. Air Force veteran. Serial killer.
Known as the BTK Killer because of his preferred method to “Bind, Torture, and Kill” his victims, Dennis Rader killd ten people over the course of 31 years while living a perfectly normal life. He was married with two children, and his family didn’t learn about their father’s secret life until shortly after his arrest.
For the eleven years since his arrest, Rader’s family kept silent on the subject, but in 2014, his adult daughter Kerri spoke out after Stephen King based a story on her family history.
“He’s exploiting my father’s 10 victims and their families,” Rawson said after learning about King’s A Good Marriage. “I haven’t been brave enough for that yet. He has said he is sorry, but that means nothing. He is not worth all the books and the news stories and all the attention.”
Jenn Carson — Daughter of Michael Bear Carson
Jenn Carson’s mom took her away from her father after noticing worrisome changes in his behavior in 1980. James Carson soon took on the name of “Michael Bear” and became involved with Suzan Bear, who went on to work with drugs, mysticism, and revolution. They also became murderers. They later became dubbed as the San Francisco Witch Killers when they claimed they killed people who they believed to be witches.
Today, Jenn Carson works as a counselor for children who have parents in prison.
Steve Hodel — Son of the Potential Black Dahlia Murderer
The Black Dahlia remains one of the most famous unsolved murders in American history. Though there have been many subjects, one of the most likely was Dr. George Hill Hodel, who was a physician in Los Angeles also suspected for the murder of his secretary.
His own son Steve was the man to lead the investigation into his father’s past. Steve went on to become a homicide detective who would go so far as to assume his father was also the Lipstick Killer and the Zodiac Killer.
