Return to Fantasia
Noah Hathaway (Atreyu)
Though he’d been acting since the age of three and was recognized for his work on Battlestar Galactica, Noah Hathaway’s biggest role was that of Atreyu, the boy warrior that was entrusted by the Childlike Empress to save a dying Fantasia.
After The NeverEnding Story, Hathaway became an instant teen heartthrob. He had a lead role in the 1986 cult classic Troll, but he landed fewer roles over the years. Instead, Hathaway dedicated himself to martial arts. He has, however, acted in some B-movies in recent years.
In early 2016, Hathaway starred in a Spotify ad campaign that featured him riding Falkor.
Deep Roy (Teeny Weeny)
Very early on in the film we are introduced to Teeny Weeny racing through Fantasia on his racing snail to escape from the Nothing. Who could forget when his iconic “Poor baby” line when a rock falls on his snail’s head?
Before The NeverEnding Story, Roy had already been in an impressive list of movies. After debuting in The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Roy was in Flash Gordon, Star Wars Episode V and VI (as a Yoda body double and later as Droopy McCool—from Jabba’s terrible band—as well as an Ewok), and The Dark Crystal.
Since The NeverEnding Story, Deep Roy’s career has only taken off even more. His credits include Return to Oz, Big Fish, the new Star Trek movies, and, of course, he was the Oompa-Loompas in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He has also done stunt work in numerous movies such as Poltergeist II, Hook, Leprechaun I and II, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Matilda, and more.
It’s safe to say that out of the casts of the three NeverEnding Story films, Roy has gone on to have one of the most successful careers.
Gerald McRaney (Mr. Bux)
Sebastian’s workaholic father is another familiar face from the film.
Since 1984, McRaney is known for roles in shows like Simon & Simon, Major Dad, Touched by an Angel and Promised Land, The West Wing, Deadwood, Jericho, and House of Cards. Most recently, he appeared on the hit new show This Is Us.
