Not all that glitters is gold
The online retail giant Amazon is so huge these days that they can afford to give away a few things for free. For example, you can request some carpet samples that are free of charge. Imgur user RowdyMcMenace thought that she was outsmarting by requesting several free samples of carpet that she could use to make something. However, she got in way over head literally. The samples just wouldn’t stop coming.
Even though she didn’t have to pay for her mistake, she has to worry about what her delivery man thinks about her now.
RowdyMcMenace took to Imgur to tell her story and warn others about the perils of getting too much stuff for free. She claimed that the entire event “started off innocently enough.” Rowdy found out a way to get free samples of textiles on Amazon, and she thought to herself, “These would make a neat cat scratcher and they’re free so…”
She ordered a “bundle” of samples of carpet. Each square of plush flooring was about 10 square inches. However, Rowdy felt like she needed to order a few more since not all of the samples would make for good cat scratchers. She hopped back on Amazon and ordered tons more carpet samples. She didn’t realize at that time that not all carpet samples are equal.
Too Many Squares
Rowdy works the night shift, so she was asleep when the delivery man came with her next round of carpet samples. It was a far larger amount that she thought she was going to get. “My boyfriend was home and awake so he helped the delivery guy bring everything inside. That’s why there’s an empty hamper in one picture- he was using it to carry a bunch at a time,” she told Bored Panda.
The delivery man brought them dozens of larger carpet samples that were about a square foot in size, unlike the small samples she got the first time. After lugging in the “mountain” of carpet, Rowdy’s boyfriend went to wake her up so that she could see what she had done.
Rowdy couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw her delivery. “The cats are super interested, and I’m laughing hysterically out of nervousness that my future husband might realize I’m a psychopath and leave me,” she wrote on Imgur.
The Greater Good
They worked together to get the dozens of samples unwrapped. There were so many that all of the samples stacked up reached from floor to ceiling. “I was in disbelief, then all I could do was laugh and apologize. I felt awful, but it was already done so might as well make the best of it! He helped me clean everything up then we played with the cats,” she said.
Rowdy was overwhelmed by the samples, but she realized that they could be used for something good. She donated the carpet squares to local animal shelters. “I can’t bring myself to sell something I got for free. I’d much rather donate and share,” she concluded. She gave her captive audience some sage words of advice: “Be picky. There’s plenty.”
Rowdy’s story of over-sampling ended well, but she taught the internet an important lesson about being careful about what you buy online, even if you’re not really paying for it. Have you made a big mistake with an online purchase? Let us know in the comments and SHARE this story!
