Even some big publications aren’t afraid to speak out about this, including a tweet from Teen Vogue that simply reads, “No thank you, Disney.”
Yeah, Teen Vogue. We’re not cool with it, either.
Some people are even being nice enough to point out the obvious solution: Don’t cast a white guy for a nonwhite role. User MitchyD pointed out that there are plenty of racially accurate actors who could fill the role, including TJ Ramini.
Tom’s Two Cents
Numerous sources, including Metro, have reported that Tom Hardy has spoken out to address the rumors that he might be cast as Jafar.
He said, briefly, that there is “no truth” to them.
That doesn’t change the fact that he was one of Guy Ritchie’s top picks, despite his race, which speaks to problems of whitewashing that still exist in 2017. Ritchie was eyeing Hardy for his star status, but was overlooking racially accurate actors who never get enough screentime to begin with.
