"Always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!"
Supply and Demand
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017
Well, that’s good, Donald, but unfortunately for him, that’s not what matters here—and as the self-proclaimed business guru that he claims to be, he should know that.
A rep from Nordstrom has responded saying that the retailer’s decision to terminate their relationship with Ivanka’s brand was apolitical. Rather, he explained that they made the choice to stop stocking her products because they weren’t selling the way that they wanted them to… Which makes perfect sense.

Sure, there are plenty of people who support Trump out there, but there are also many who don’t, and I doubt the latter group will ever touch another Trump product again. Nordstrom isn’t going to stock something that they know won’t sell—especially when the sales reports show the facts—even if choosing not to do so “looks political.” The reality is that whether they continued to stock Trump products or not, it would appear as though they were “picking a side,” regardless of the facts around it.
At the end of the day, Nordstrom is just trying to make some money. They’re only going to stock clothes that sell well.

Trump’s Nordstrom debacle has proven something about the current political climate that is actually very timely and pressing—well, two things actually. The first is that boycotts, or perhaps the power of the dollar, are powerful tools.
We’ve seen calls for boycotts time and time again throughout the course of the 2016 election (mostly from Trump supporters, actually) and none of them have done a whole lot until now. It shows that if you commit to a boycott (and there is an actual, viable, tangible, goal) you can actually get what you want. The second is that the fastest way to Trump is still through his (daughter’s) wallet, which is just one more thing that does not bode well for the future of this country.
