Can you believe this?
Acoustic Kitty. If you went around talking about the CIA’s plan to insert microphones into cats’ butts and use them to spy on foreign officials, you’d sound like a crazy person, but we tried it, and even crazier stuff, during the Cold War. (PvtSherlockObvious)
During Reagan’s second term, senior officials plotted to sell arms to Iran, which was under embargo, by using Israel as the middleman. They then took the profits and funded the Contras in Nicaragua, which was also illegal. This became known as the Iran-Contra affair. On top of that they tried to get some hostages freed that were being held in Lebanon by Hezbollah as a part of this deal. (i-FF0000dit)
The case of Shiro Ishii, the commander of Japan’s Unit 731, who was directly or indirectly responsible for the death of about 300.000 Chinese and Korean civilians by cruel human experimentation and spreading of diseases under his supervision during World War II. When the US tracked him down in Japan after the war, they did not charge him with a single war crime in exchange for medical knowledge received from said experiments, as they would have been deemed as too immoral to be conducted in the US themselves.
Ishii then helped to produce biological weapons during the Korean War. There is enough evidence to support this, also because North Korea accused the US of doing this shortly after he came there. According to some sources, he then opened a doctor’s office for children as a free man back in Japan before he died in 1959.
It is incredible that few people know about this at all and that the US government got away with it. (tenzing_happy)
