This needs to stop. This needs to stop right now.
Hey, people out there are still denying that racism exists, here’s a story for you. Earlier this week a woman of color was kicked out of a Victoria’s Secret in Alabama due to her race after a completely different woman was caught shoplifting earlier. Yeah, that sounds ridiculous, right? Well, it really, truly happened because the shopper caught the whole thing on video.
A Day Off
Kimberly Houzah, a 27-year-old nurse from Alabama, decided to spend her Thursday off shopping. Like any other young woman out to treat herself, Kimberly headed her local mall to buy a few overpriced undergarments at Victoria’s Secret and an Auntie Anne’s. Unfortunately, her leisurely afternoon off quickly turned as she strolled into the store.
Things Take a Turn
After looking around for a while, she says she was approached by the manager who asked her to leave. When the employee refused to give her a reason, Kimberly turned on her camera and started streaming live to Facebook. Houzah explained that, as far as she could tell, she and the only other woman of color in the store were being asked to leave because a third woman had stolen something from the store earlier that day.
Houzah decided the best course of action was to leave quietly and voice her outrage on social media instead, but not before turning the camera back on the store to reveal that security had been called, apparently to escort the two women of color off the premises. The whole display was disgusting evidence of the realities of race relations in our country even though we claim to have “come so far.”
