When it comes to 25-year-old Victoria’s Secret model Jasmine Tookes, wearing minimal clothing in front of millions of people isn’t a problem.
Clearly, Jasmine is comfortable in her own skin. And while that may not come as a surprise, supermodels can feel self-conscious, too, even though their looks and bodies are their biggest business tools.
Though Jasmine clearly has a supermodel’s body, she’s still a real person like you or me, and there’s more to her than meets the eye. While the fashion and modeling industries have been criticized for years over the unrealistic portrayal of women and the use and abuse of misleading photo editing, these latest pictures of Jasmine Tookes might be an indication that Victoria’s Secret is starting to let their models’ true beauty shine.
The fashion industry has come under fire for years over the digitally altered photos and campaigns they use. As if the models weren’t thin and beautiful enough already, photo editors practically remake the shoots once the photographer is gone and continue to edit out curves, acne, and other imperfections. Though sometimes these changes are totally unnoticeable, major blunders or extreme cases have caused such media firestorms that people have reached the conclusion: stop Photoshop.
Companies such as Lane Bryant and Aerie have embraced the natural beauty of their diverse models and have seen sales skyrocket after they stopped Photoshopping.
Victoria Shows Her Secret
Now, it seems as though Victoria’s Secret may be following this latest trend.
Each year, Victoria’s Secret reveals a multi-million-dollar Fantasy Bra several months before its annual fashion show. Famous examples include the time Tyra Banks donned a bra worth $10 million that bore a 70-carat, flawless diamond. Sheesh!
This year, angel Jasmine Tookes was selected to wear the 2016 Bright Night Fantasy Bra, a $3 million piece designed by Eddie Borgo and featuring some 9,000 precious stones, namely diamonds and emeralds.
As this year’s Fantasy Bra model, Tookes is the third woman of color to hold that honor, but there’s something equally as groundbreaking with the photos from the shoot as well: Victoria’s Secret didn’t edit out Jasmine’s stretch marks.
In the photo above, you can make out stretch lines on Jasmine’s upper thigh. They weren’t edited out for the photo shoot’s publication, a first in Victoria’s Secret’s history.
You can see the difference from the next lingerie photo, which Tookes posted on Instagram just several weeks ago…
