Branding Has Gone Too Far
The Super Bowl commercial, while certainly funny, was also strangely distracting and disturbing, and all for one reason:
Mr. Clean has transformed over time from humble beginnings and a suit and tie into a skin-tight, all-white, zero f***ks-given outfit that leaves VERY little to the imagination. Only we didn’t want to be imagining this in the first place. Ever.
Viewers were, however, impressed with Mr. Clean’s ripped bod. And even more than his biceps, it was his glutes that may have stolen the show.
If you feel hot and bothered during the Super Bowl, it’s supposed to be because of all those bulky men in the tight white see-through pants, right? We mean the ones on the field, not the one cleaning your living room. But maybe that’s why people were so entranced by the smooth sway of Mr. Clean’s hips, the loving look in those baby blues, all the [un]necessary flexing….
SNAP OUT OF IT. Remember this is an animated ageless bald man we’re talking about. So what if you can’t look at him without thinking about the peach emoji? The only thing we need to keep clean up in here is our own thoughts.
The Twitterverse promptly lost its mind, and I’m sure more than a few clean ups were needed after the commercial. We couldn’t relate more to @ASpacedCadet’s tweet, “11/10 would drunk text Mr Clean at 2:13am.” Mr. Clean has officially entered the modern world. This is how our youth will remember him, for better or for worse.
But nobody loved the Super Bowl more than Mr. Clean himself.
A Modern Mr. Clean
Set on maintaining his relevancy after nearly 60 years, Mr. Clean is fully armed and dangerous… with a Twitter account. And he isn’t afraid to BRING ON THE SNARKY.
During the entire game, Mr. Clean kept chirping the night’s other commercials, simultaneously flattering himself while handing out a few compliments. He even managed to tweet out a few awesome images, including the one where he’s imitating Lady Gaga’s halftime show entrance. The ad team behind Mr. Clean better have gotten a SERIOUS raise for all this. Genius.
