A step forward via a step back
What the Future Holds
When the opposition Labor Party announced they wouldn’t approve the vote, their leader, Bill Shorten, said this: “Children do not need to go to school in the climate of a plebiscite and have the integrity of their parents’ relationship challenged. I could not look at these loving families—the parents of gay people, people in committed same-sex relationships, young people whose parents are gay—and say to them that this plebiscite was good for them.”
According to Buzzfeed, groups of so-called “rainbow families” filled a room in Australia’s Parliament House and celebrated the decision after its announcement.
Do you think this is the right move for Australia’s LGBT community? Anything worth doing is worth doing the right way, but we just hope the country is able to legalize gay marriage soon to show its support for the equality of all its citizens. SHARE if you agree!
